About QuickBooks

QuickBooks is a business line accounting software created by Intuit. The software was initially popular among small business owners who didn’t have formal accounting training; this allowed the software to rise 80% in the small business accounting market. Professional accountants weren’t satisfied with the earlier versions of QuickBooks because it had bad security controls, i.e. no audit trail and the traditional accounting standards were low. Intuit then developed QuickBooks Basic and QuickBooks Pro by the year 2000, then in 2003, the company began providing industry specific versions that had workflow processes and business specific report designs; terminology for the specified industries were also included in the software versions.

QuickBooks can be purchased in other countries besides the U.S., such as the UK, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. The UK version of the software has the VAT (Value Added Tax) and the Canadian version has the PST or GST sales tax.

QuickBooks has several integrated web-based features, such as Google maps, email functions with Outlook Express and marketing options with Google. Users are also able to import Excel Sheets, employee time tracking options, and more. In June 2007, Intuit announced that the QuickBooks Enterprise Outlook Express would be able to run on Linux servers, unlike the earlier versions that required a Windows server to work.
